Before any photo session I take my little model with me to not only scope out the location but to also get a feel for the lighting. I usually do this the week in advance prior to the session. This may seem silly and a waist of time for some, but it helps me to mentally prepare for the session. I try out several backgrounds to get a feel for which one might work the best.
